Rachel Steiman

Owner

Rachel has 21 years experience in the hospitality industry and got her start while working as a host at bd's Mongolian Barbeque in Bethesda, MD while she was a freshman at American University.  While in school, she worked her way up from host to server to manager and as she was about to graduate and move on to law school, she wasn't certain she wanted to follow that path (she's incredibly indecisive), and was offered the position of AGM for a year and the opportunity to continue learning the ins and outs of managing a team and operating a full service restaurant, which she accepted.  One year quickly turned into multiple years, and she learned every position in the restaurant and went from the rush of running a wait list on a busy Saturday night to cooking with swords alongside the grillers, to hiring/training/scheduling and managing labor, to executing marketing plans and events, to overseeing ordering and managing food costs and she enjoyed the challenge of all of it.  While working at bd's, she made friends for life and learned the ropes from the best GM ever (Cheers, Brum!), and met her partner, Oded, and the rest is history!

Rachel has always loved the friendships and family aspect of the restaurant industry, and the fact that Carving Room and CR NoMa are family endeavors makes them that much more special to her.  Rachel enjoys training new staff, working expo in the kitchen on Sundays, and overseeing the catering and events for Carving Room.  When she is not working, Rachel enjoys traveling with Oded and relaxing on the beach, checking out new restaurants, going to concerts, spending time with family, eating ice cream, and working out at Bar Method.
